Meet Gertie
She is your typical Basset Hound: nose to the ground, LOVES food, stubborn, incredibly loyal and oh so affectionate. Gertie is an absolute gem. You can’t help, but fall in love with her right when you meet her. You are hers the second you look into those big droopy brown eyes. We also love her big silky ears, massive slobbery jowls, and giant floppy biscuits (paws).
Gertie is the definition of a Velcro dog. She will follow her favorite hooman to the ends of the earth and back. Then patiently wait for them at the backdoor when they leave. She greets you with happy whining, a wagging tail and great big kisses. She can get a little jealous when you love on other dogs in front of her. And she hates being separated from you if you are in the house with her.
You will have no trouble getting her into your car since she loves car rides and is always happy to be in tow. Gertie is housebroken and can use the doggy door with ease. Being kept in her x-pen while your gone is not her favorite, but she seems to do better alone in a room with just a dog gate if you have to run out without her.
Gertie loves chew toys (bully sticks & yak chews), but she doesn't really play with toys. The dogs in her foster home are not the playful type so we aren't sure if she will play with other dogs. She has done well greeting new dogs (but can be a bit snappy if they invade her space without permission) and she will bark when she sees other dogs while on a leash. She’s really a people kind of dog, but coexists well with dogs in the home.
She pulls on a leash, but that is to be expected. All she is doing is following her nose. We would like to see her adopted by someone or a family that is familiar with her breed, especially if you have lived with Basset Hounds before. Gertie is amazing, sweet, loving, gentle… probably one of the most endearing dogs you will ever meet. Whoever adopts her will be very lucky.
